Living together as God’s people

One of the primary ways we fulfill our mission to make disciples through treasuring, living, and proclaiming is through is through a network of small groups—what we call “Community Groups.” While we are joined to all believers in the local church, Community Groups allow us to relate more deeply with a small number of people.

Through the gospel, God is redeeming His people, and Jesus is creating his image in them. His people then reflect his character, and reflect the Triune God himself – 3 persons – 1 God – perfect in fellowship and love. Therefore, as a church our fellowship with others is evidence of fellowship with God (1 John 1:3). Community is a place we get to express our worship, relationships, and mission as a church. At Cross of Grace, we want to be a church of disciples who make and mature disciples. Because community is key to discipleship, membership at Cross of Grace is woven into community. It could be said, “We are community groups.”

So membership at Cross of Grace means being vitally connected to gospel community. We are each to be a member of a particular community group and give our life to the mission and people in that group. We are each to be growing as a disciple of Jesus with others as disciples of Jesus.

Because of our identity in Jesus Christ, we purpose to do three things:
Worship. We exist to worship God. We gather not only to hear God’s word, we must apply it to our lives in order to be fruitful. Community Groups enable us to do this together. We seek to apply the Bible’s teaching, review Sunday messages, pray, sing, discuss Christian books, and use a variety of other resources with the intention of growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Community: God has made us dependent on each other, and Community Groups provide a context where we can minister to each other with the gifts that God has given us. It is a place where we can build intimate relationships, care for one another, meet needs, and help each other grow in our relationship with God.

Mission: Life is not contained to a Sunday gathering. Neither is the gospel. We want live everyday life with the gospel central. Who Jesus is and what He has done for us transforms every relationship and every priority. Living the gospel produces a community of transformed people who reach out to those who don’t yet know Christ. Our love for one another in community is aimed to witness and testify of the gospel’s work, so that others may come to know Christ.

Participation

Our community groups meet several times per month on various days of the week. These monthly meetings are an ongoing rotation of a full-group gathering (all members of the group) and then individual smaller men’s and women’s meetings called “discipleship groups.”

Information on our various groups, leaders, locations, and meeting times can be found at our information table on Sunday mornings. To experience a community group, or have this information sent to you, email us at info@crossgrace.org and a leader will be in touch in a timely manner.

Those who are new to the church are encouraged to attend our Foundations Class and begin connecting with the pastors, beliefs and values of the church. Community Groups are also a great place to get to know others as someone explores whether Cross of Grace would be their church home.

“That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. – 1 John 1:3
